【摘要】:Thistestmethodallowsfortheassessmentofanapparentviscosityofclayslurriesinthelaboratoryandinthefield.Viscosityisafundamentalcharacteristicforslurriesinconstructionapplications.TheMarshFunnelViscositytestcanbeusedforfieldqualitycontrolofslurries.RelativechangesinslurryviscositycanbeidentifiedusingMarshFunnelmeasurementsandmodificationscanbemadetomixingandhandlingprocedures.Inthistest,itisassumedthattheapparentviscosityofaslurryisdirectlyrelatedtotheflowdurationthroughaspeciallyshapedfunnel(theMarshFunnel).Note18212;ThedevelopmentoftheMarshFunneliscreditedtoHallanN.MarshofLosAngeleswhopublishedthedesignanduseofhisfunnelviscometerin1931.Inslurrywallconstructionandotherapplications,theviscosityofaslurrymustbemaintainedatalevelhighenoughtoassistinstabilizingthetrenchwalls.Slurryviscosityisalsodirectlyrelatedtofiltercakepermeability.TheMarshFunnelViscosityhasbeenwidelyusedindrillingsoilandrockforwaterwells,oil,gas,soilstabilization,andtheapplicationofhydraulicbarriers.Inertsuspendedsolidssuchasfinesandsandadditivesaffecttheviscosityofslurries.Thistestmaybeusedtodeterminetherelativeeffectsofthisandothersuchmaterialsontheviscosityofaslurry.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting,sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodprovidesanindirectmeasurementoftheviscosityofclayslurriesusingafunnel(MarshFunnel)andagraduatedcupofspecificdimensions.Thistestmethodprovidesapracticalindicatoroftheviscosityonaroutinebasis.ThistestmethodhasbeenmodifiedfromtheAPIRecommendedPractice13B-2.1.2TheresultdeterminedusingthemethodisreferredtoastheMarshFunnelViscosity.1.3Thistestcanbeperformedinthelaboratory,orusedinthefieldtoassesstheapparentviscosityofaclayslurryforqualitycontrolpurposes.Themostcommonlyusedslurryisabentoniteclayslurry.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
